:30, september 14th. welcome jennifer hill to the bay area. she has a look at the forecast. >> good morning, everybody. it was a little cold yesterday and will be a little bit warmer today. low clouds will burn off earlier than they did yesterday. we are looking at the 8:00 a.m. forecast. 56 in livermore and 54 in fairfield. patchy fog in the forecast in the morning hours. as we get into the noon hour, 73 degrees in concord and clearing happening along the way itself. happening earlier than yesterday and temperatures will be warmer. as we head towards 4:00, temperatures near 80. cool in the evening and back into the 70s for fairfield. 75 degrees for napa and 75 for san jose. we will see some clouds towards the specific, but clearing towards san francisco and santa cruz will see 67 for a high. i know it's my first day, but talking about rain. we are looking at showers on friday. the north bay and possibly getting as far south as san mateo and it's for the weekend. not my fault! >> happy first day. mike? >> hardly my first day, but i won't talk about rain. we will leave it to jennifer. we are

the forecast and welcome jennifer hill this morning. good morning. >> good morning and thank you. a little cool yesterday, but today things start to warm up. we have the low clouds hugging the area and those will burn off by the time we reach the noon hour. by noon we are getting to the 60s and 70s and by 4:00, upper 70s for fairfield and livermore. in the 60s over san francisco and santa cruz. >> sounds like a great day. let's see how your commute is shaping up. as a view across the bay, looking nice right now. westbound with the tail lights away from the hayward side where the construction picked up off the southbound 80 and 82 interchange. good news for city streets. let me show you the maps. we have construction schedule and that has been going on for a while. we do have a couple of lanes block until about 7:00 a.m. southbound 280 moving smoothly and that won't start until later on until about 6:30. back to you. >> 5:02 right now. the search continues for four people still missing after the explosion in san bruno. at the same time the search for answers into what sparked the has emotions ru

a second language. jennifer mistrot shows us a new program in fremont that's getting kindergarteners speaking mandarin. [ mandarin ] >>> reporter: this is the second day of miss wang's kindergarten class. the kids are jazzed. they are learning the world's most spoken language. it's the first year of the fremont school district's mandarin immersion program. >> in a nutshell, they are going to learn the culture. they are going to learn the language. and they are going to be educated in all the same standards. >> reporter: same course work any other california kindergartener gets except they will spend 90% of their classroom time counting, singing and speaking chinese. these mini language wizards are chosen by lottery and come from classes throughout the district. the goal is to create bilingual citizens. >> we're mexican and italian and just very mixed american family so as far as her knowing mandarin or knowing chinese culture i thought that was something else just to expose her two. >> reporter: most of the kids have at least one chinese parent but english is still the first language

home owners jittery about some potential scams. jennifer mistrot about how neighbors can make sure that contractors spotted in the area are supposed to be there. >>> reporter: the residents of this san bruno neighborhood evacuated after last week's gas explosion are back in their homes. they have been greeted by signs, warning about contractor fraud. >> you know, when they first approached me, i was a little leary because they were anxious to get in and started cleaning. >> reporter: he lives near the blast site. he thinks his house sustained minimal damage. but inside reeks of smoke so everything needs to be washed from the walls right down to the dishes in his kitchen cupboard. it's a big job. >> i'm sort of consistently asking the policemen, hey, what are the rules and regulations of letting people in? because they are not letting a lot of people in. so since these restoration and cleaning folks have been let in, does that mean they're on the up and up? >> i was in the neighborhood today and -- >> reporter: pg&e wants to make sure all contractors working to restore this neighbor

the numbers. >>> also, the new titles that jennifer lopez it reportedly now add to her resume. wi totr wco l wcotiitt fow tewe >>> authorities have identified the man killed yesterday in a fishing bone accident in the san francisco bay. investigators say roland reed died after his boat slammed into the rocks near the richmond marina. the 71-year-old richmond man was a passenger on this boat. he had gone out fishing with three of his friends. investigators say they were not wearing life jackets. still not clear what caused the crash. >>> a 29-year-old san francisco man is due in court today. he will be facing charges in a deadly crash in the city's richmond district over the weekend. prosecutors say william rojas will be charged with vehicular manslaughter driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. police say rojas ran a stop sign in his suv at cabrio and 40th avenue and hit another car. a 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in that other car was killed. >>> new data shows foreclosure situation is getting a bit better in the south bay and peninsula. 795,000 santa clara

it comes to part of president obama's tax plan that phases out tax cuts for the wealthy. our jennifer davis reports on what's becoming a very heated debate in washington, d.c. >> reporter: congress returns to washington in the middle of campaign season and is battling it out over the bush-era tax cuts. he wants to extend tax cuts for the middle class but not the wealthy. >> if i said the sky was blue, they would say no. >> reporter: but now top house return john boehner said he would compromise, reporting tax cut foss the middle class even if tax cuts for the wealthy were to expire. >> you should not raise taxes on anyone in a recession. he was never gonna block the middle class tax cut. >> reporter: boehner is still pushing for this to be extended for high-income families because he said they can are job creator. >> we won't have real economic growth if we keep raising taxes on small businesses. >> reporter: boehner would become speaker of the house if the republicans win enough seats in the midterm elections and he's been trading barbs with the white house as the preelections heat up. >>
